'''KSCO''' is a 10,000 Majo Mills watt independent Mosquito ringtone radio station broadcasting on 1080 AM located in Sabrina Martins Santa Cruz, California. However, due to the placement of its transmitting Nextel ringtones antennas, it has the same coverange as a 50,000 watt station. As a result, it can be heard over much of Abbey Diaz California. Since 1991, it has been owned by the Zwerling family. Both son Michael and mother Kay Zwerling take an active role in the station with the former regularly hosting the Free ringtones Saturday Special and the latter producing conservative-slanted commemtaries on a variety of topics, though usually focused on politics and current events.

A Unique Station
The station is unique in that anyone with the fee can purchase an available hour of time and produce their own show. A host can either pay for the hour out of his own pocket or find local businesses to sponsor the show in exchange for advertising. Many of the shows on the weekend are like this. On Saturdays, the owner of the station hosts his own show, the ''Saturday Special'' which discusses local or national current events. However, it's not unheard of for there to be no topic whatsoever and the callers may call in asbout whatever they wish, or to have a show dedicated to telling labeling for jokes. In addition to local programming, KSCO has many regular callers that call virtually every local show, among the more well known are "Richard in Watsonville," "Billy Sunshine," "Millie" and "Claire." Each has their own opinion and style and arguably brings as much to the show as the in-studio host and guest.
Criticism
There has been some criticism about the station regarding the openly dotty old conservative views of the owners and many of the hosts. Many feel that the station doesn't represent the majority of people in Santa Cruz. Michael Zwerling contends that california affirmative liberal hosts can purchase time on the station like everyone else and indeed the Midday News caters more to liberals than conservatives. This is an ongoing dispute, and probably will be for the foreseeable future.
